Kelly Clarkson delivered a heartfelt rendition of a Lainey Wilson ballad during her “Kellyoke” performance on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Tuesday (May 7).

Clarkson covered “Two Story House,” a song that the reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year released in 2021, telling the story of how she and her sister grew up together and ultimately ended up pursuing different paths in life: “We both looked out the same windows/ Wished on the same stars/ Hung our blue jeans in the same breeze, in the same backyard/ And how can two kids with the same raising/ Wind up on such different pages/ We all got our different callings/ Yeah, I guess that's why they call it/ A two-story house/ A two-story house.”

It’s the latest time Clarkson has covered one of Wilson’s songs (and many other songs by country artists) on her talk show or during a performance. She previously covered Wilson’s hit single from her Grammy Award-winning Bell Bottom Country album, “Heart Like A Truck,” earning praise from the original artist

Wilson appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show in March, after recently attending one of Clarkson’s shows in Las Vegas. The Baskin, Louisiana-born powerhouse said when Clarkson performs, “you can feel it from the top of your head to the tips of your toes with every ounce of you. And also, I know that you covered ‘Heart Like A Truck.’

“I just wanna tell you this... This is coming straight from my heart. Even when you’re up here just covering everybody else’s songs, it’s not just like you just learned the words and you got up there. I mean, you are feeling it for everything that it is. I just wanna say thank you for doing that. That means so much to me that you got up there and sang ‘Heart Like A Truck.’ …You’re singing everybody’s songs better than they sing ‘em!”

Clarkson has previously covered songs by Reba McEntire, Keith Whitley, Josh Turner, George Strait, Hank Williams Jr. and other country artists. Watch her performance of “Two Story House” here:
